Suitability test
According to the pharmacopeia it is important to show that a method is able to detect relevant microorganisms in the sample. This is called ”Suitability of the counting method ” section 4, chapter 2.6.12, and ”Suitability of the test” section 3, chapter 2.6.13.
A suitability test is performed by detection of up to 5 different types of microorganisms added to the sample. If the sample has antimicrobial activity this can be neutralised by adding neutralising components, dilution, membrane filtration or by other methods. This to ensure a true picture of the content of living microorganisms in the sample.
DB Lab do make suitability tests and can develop and validate methods for neutralising antimicrobial activity.
